Have you wondered about the cholesterol myth? I increased my waist and pant size, when I ate low fat foods full of chains of carbohydrate sugars. And in searching for ways to improve the quality of my DNA, found that quality fats, and cholesterol are essential for my brain. I’ve listed 8 evidenced based high cholesterol myths vs facts. Have a read and see what you think…
According to the WHO, the leading cause of death for the last 15 years is Ischemic heart disease and Stroke. A total of 15.2 million deaths happened in 2016. LOOK at this World Health Organisation graph showing heart (Ischemic) disease and strokes as the leading cause of death globally.
MYTH 1: This Standard Heart Health Medical Advice Saves Your Life
How can the WHO 2016 graph, list Ischaemic heart disease & Stoke at the leading cause of death, if the following advice works?
Here is a list of the standard medical treatment for heart health problems:
- #1. Cholesterol-Lowering medication (statins)
- #2. High Blood pressure medication
- #3. Low-fat, high carbohydrate, diets
- #4. Diet recommendations include – cereals & grains (unrefined), fruits & juice, starchy vegetables, omega-6 vegetables oils
- #5 Operations
Why is heart disease and stroke the leading cause of death? Are the above remedies your best options?
MYTH 2: High Cholesterol is Linked to Heart Health Problems and Strokes
FACT 2: Inflammation Triggers Heart Illness Development Research from the US National Library of Medicine Says in 2018
“Inflammation is a biological response of the immune system that can be triggered by a variety of factors, including pathogens (harmful bugs), damaged cells, and toxic compounds. These factors may induce acute (sudden), and/ or chronic (unresolved) inflammatory responses in the heart, pancreas, liver, kidney, lung, brain, intestinal tract, and reproductive system leading to damage or disease.”
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
This means inflammation is a natural response of your immune system. Inflammation can be triggered by many things which include: bacteria, fungi, bugs, cut or hurt parts of the body, toxic substances, too much glucose & fructose from the huge carbohydrate families of plants, plus too much omega-6 polyunsaturated vegetable seed fat & oils in your diet. When acute inflammation is unable to be healed by the body’s immune system, and is suppressed by anti-inflammatory medical drugs, this becomes chronic-inflammation or unresolved-inflammation.
This 2018 research found that chronic-inflammation triggers happen inside the organs of your body. Here is their list of 8 organs:
- Inside your heart
- Inside your pancreas
- Inside your liver
- Inside your kidneys
- Inside your lung
- Inside your brain
- Inside your intestinal tract
- Inside your sex and reproductive organs
Unresolved chronic inflammation starts as very small damage that is so small, that is can only be seen under a powerful microscope. It starts when your immune system is unable to fix acute inflammation. This becomes systemic body-wide chronic-inflammation, or unresolved-inflammation.
MYTH 3: The Higher Your Cholesterol the Sooner You Die of Heart Health Problems
FACT 3: Research Published in The US National Library of Medicine says There Are Many Ways Low Cholesterol Levels Harm Your Health
#3.1 For Men Your Prostate Cancer Risk Increases
Prostate cancer risk increases if you have low-cholesterol, carry out a high level of physical fitness plus your BMI (body-mass-index) is low.
#3.2 Strokes Risk Increases Says Studies of 1,430,141 people
Your risk of having a stroke, or bleeding inside your brain increases: When your LDL or ‘bad-cholesterol’ levels are low.
This 2013 review of 23 studies involving 1,430,141 people found that when their LDL, low-density lipoproteins, or ‘bad cholesterol’ was low, more people had strokes.
#3.3 Cancer Tumors Increase in Size
Research – has found that cholesterol-lowering medication is linked to tumors increasing in size, when they are already present in your body.
#3.4 Cancer Risk Increases with Low-Cholesterol Levels
A 1988 – study of 39,268 men and women aged 15-99 years were cancer-free at the start of this 10-year study.
It was found that those with low-cholesterol levels had an increased occurrence of cancer.
#3.5 Low Total Cholesterol Lower Than 189mg/dl (4.9mmol/L) Signals Rapidly Declining Health in Elderly
#3.6 Low Total Cholesterol Indicates Higher Death Rate
#3.7 Low Total Cholesterol Levels Increase Risk of Parkinson Disease
High total cholesterol levels protected the brain of the 6465 people aged over 55 years who took place in the Rotterdam Study. The Oxford Academic American Journal of Epidemiology 2006 carried out this study.
Everybody was examined – then they were all re-examined 9.4 years later. It was discovered that higher total cholesterol levels, were associated with a lower number of the women members of the group developing Parkinson’s disease. Here are the surprising findings of the Rotterdam study:
LOW TOTAL CHOLESTEROL LEVELS INCREASED PARKINSON RISK:
BELOW 6.1 mmol/L (110 mg/dl) INCREASED Parkinson risk by 58%
BETWEEN 6.1 – 6.8 mmol/L (110 – 122 mg/dl) INCREASED Parkinson risk by 46%
BETWEEN 6.8 – 7.0 mmol/L (122 – 126 mg/dl) INCREASED Parkinson risk by 16%
#3.8 Low Total Cholesterol Linked to Depression and Anxiety in Women
Low triglycerides and low total cholesterol are linked to increased rates of depression in healthy young women this 1999 research found.
#3.9 Low cholesterol levels link to depression and suicide in male war veterans
4500 US – war veterans were studied for 15 years. Researchers found that the men with depression and low total cholesterol were 7 more times likely to die prematurely of an accident or suicide than the other men in the study.
MYTH 4: High-Cholesterol Blocks Your Arteries
When inflammation is unable to be repaired or unresolved, it turns into harmful reactions and becomes chronic inflammation. This repeats and over stimulates damaging mechanisms, which triggers the start of the formation of atherosclerotic lesions (damage to the internal walls of your arteries).
What happens inside your arteries when silent inflammation is at work?
Your blood vessel walls get thicker
This thickness means the inside size gets smaller
Plaques start to grow and gradually get bigger
Plaques make blood clots which get into your bloodstream and cause blockages
MYTH 5: Saturated-Fat Is Harmful
This landmark systemic review and meta-analysis of observational studies showed NO link between saturated fat and death from hearth health problems!
This research found that:
“Saturated fat does not clog or block arteries”
The inflammatory process inside your body, itself, contributes to cholesterol being put within the artery wall – this process is called atherosclerosis, – or body-wide inflammation or systemic inflammation that develops within the blood vessel or artery walls. A paradigm shift of understanding heart health problems was called for.
“Saturated fats are not correctly linked with increased heart disease risk,”

MYTH 6: Polyunsaturated Omega-6 Oils Are Healthy Options
FACT 6: Diet Increases in Polyunsaturated Omega-6 to Omega-3 Ratio from 1:1 to More Than 15:1 is Linked to Inflammatory Problems
“Dietary fat changes over the past few decades in the intake of omega-6 and omega-3 polyunsaturated fats show a striking increase in the omega-6 to omega-3 ratio (-15:1)”. This means, when you eat more omega-6 compared to omega-3 polyunsaturated fats, they are used by your body as ingredients. When vital families of communicating regulators (the eicosanoids and the prostaglandins), are made with omega-6 polyunsaturated fats, they trigger inflammation and become pro-inflammatory. “Coinciding with this increase in the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 are increases in chronic inflammatory diseases such as heart disease, obesity, inflammatory bowel disease (IBS), rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, and non-alcoholic fatty liver” says the Us National Library of Medicine in 2012.

MYTH 7: Blood Pressure Lowering Medication Effectively Treats High Blood Pressure
FACT 7: Blood Pressure Lowering Medical Drugs Don’t Repair Your Arteries Hidden Problems
Medical research shows that despite medical drugs achieving normal blood pressure numbers, the silent damage happening inside your blood vessel walls is not reduced or healed. Plus, they don’t protect your arteries from becoming hard and stiff, says the Us National Library of Medicine in 2014.
Here is the headline of this research finding:
“Treatment of hypertension and metabolic syndrome: lowering blood pressure is not enough for organ protection, new approach-arterial de-stiffening”.
MYTH 8: Cholesterol Medications (Statins) do not Affect Your Sex Hormones or Sex Organs
FACT 8: Statins Could Decrease Your Testosterone Levels When It Blocks and Reduces the Availability of Cholesterol for Making Your Sex Hormones.
The average age of the men in this study was 51.6 years; some were younger than 40 years. It was found the use of cholesterol lowering medication was linked to:
- Testis volume getting smaller
- This caused hidden low testosterone signs and symptoms
