What is the cause heart disease? Why does this WHO graph show heart (Ischemic) disease and stroke as the leading cause of death, accounting for 15.2 million deaths in 2016, and the leading causes of death globally in the last 15 years, if treatment and advice is correct?

Heart disease and stroke leading cause of death 2016

Top 10 Global Cause of Death – 2016 WHO The heart health industry has focused, for more than 60 years, on:

  1. Cholesterol lowering medical drugs (Statins)
  2. Blood pressure lowering medical drugs
  3. Blood thinning medical drugs
  4. Surgical techniques to widen or bypass blocked arteries
  5. Not identifying food as ingredient information, your body’s metabolism interprets and uses
  6. Blaming cholesterol and saturated fat, but not considering systemic (whole body) inflammation
  7. Not investigating root causes
  8. Blaming dietary fat as the ingredient cholesterol is made from
  9. Not letting you know cholesterol is needed and made by your body

What is the Cause Heart Disease? – 12 Facts Medical Science Says Are Linked to Root Causes

Study the following image. Is it a familiar story, or is it new information?

Coronary Artery Plaque & Heart Disease Causes

The evidence Cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra and Dr Zoe Harcombe found, that the root causes of coronary artery plaque (heart disease & stroke) are:

  1. Excess fructose and refined carbohydrates (located in the white area bottom left).
  2. Sub optimal omega 3 (located in white area bottom right).
  3. Too much omega 6 (located in white area bottom right).
  4. And Other factors.

The list of 4 contain arrows that point into the pale yellow box titled: A. Insulin Resistance and/or B. Systemic Inflammation.

A. Insulin Resistance is a Very Confusing Name.

What it really means is that your carbohydrate and sugar based diet, forces your body to continually produce the hormone insulin. The name, Insulin Resistance, misrepresents the fact, that the ‘beta cells’ in your pancreas have been BURNT OUT by the carbohydrate families of sugars & starches you’ve been recommended to eat by government dietary guidelines. Then, doctors managed you for the rest of your declining sick life, with diabetes medication. A point I find interesting is this – The estimated cost to public health, but income for pharmaceutical businesses in 2018 for the US is $327 billion say the American Diabetes Association.

B. What is Systemic Inflammation?

“Over the past few years, it has become increasing clear that inflammation is at the root of atherosclerosis (heart [Ischemic] disease and stroke) and its complications” say the American Heart Association’s Circulation Journal in Part 1 of a 2-part article in October 28, 2003.

Systemic inflammation or chronic inflammation is a slow, long-term inflammation lasting for prolonged periods of several months to years says the US National Library of Medicine.

Chronic inflammation is through-out your body, it is therefore a type of systemic inflammation and can contribute to the development of disease, according to the summary in the John Hopkins Health Review.

Systemic inflammation is not a disease, but a moving active process, driven by your out of control immune system. Your immune system is continually triggered by:

  1. Food choices
  2. A lack of, or too much of something
  3. A lack of essential nutrients
  4. Chemical toxins
  5. Injury
  6. Medical drugs to suppress one action or function of your metabolism
  7. Ignoring root causes

Another point I found interesting is this – the Anti-Inflammatory Therapeutics Market is expected to reach $106.1 billion by 2020 according to the Allied Market Research website.

Anti-inflammatory medication suppress your body’s immune systems metabolisms, natural response to damage and harm, but have no ability to repair or heal, and may be one of the reasons unresolved systemic chronic inflammation is endemic. But gaining first hand knowledge, and putting into practice, a natural food based anti-Inflammatory meal diet plan which is available here would make you stop suffering, and feel: less sluggish & bloated, decrease weight instead of continual increase,  stop cravings, & reverse diabetes symptoms.

FACT #1 is the item listed as number 1 in the list under the image called Coronary Artery Plaque & Heart Disease Causes

FACT NUMBER 1. What is the Cause Heart DiseaseExcess Fructose and Refined Carbohydrates Damage Red Blood Cells & Cause Beta Cell Burnout

Dietary Guidelines Contain Too Much Sugar

Except for eggs, every food in the above list are families of carbohydrates, sugars and starches which trigger insulin. These are the food which cause BURN OUT of the beta cells of your pancreas. Then your pancreas is unable to make insulin. PLUS, for some reason you are diagnosed with insulin resistance or metabolic syndrome, but NOT systemic or chronic inflammation.

Can you measure your A1C (Glycated hemoglobin) or HbA1C (Glycated haemoglobin) percentage? – If you can measure your A1C – HbA1C this means you are following the standard recommended Western Diet Guidelines – just look at the image above – How much unknown sugar are you consuming each day?

What Does the A1C (HbA1C) Blood Test Mean? – It means that the blood glucose from carbohydrates sugars and starch are attacking (attaching themselves to) your red blood cells. The process is known as glycation. Medical research has found this structurally damages your red blood cell. Their function is altered because they are unable to pass through artery walls without damaging them (triggering inflammation). (1) (2)

A SAFE AIC (HbA1C) percentage is 0% if you do not what to damage your artery and blood vessel walls.

Healthy Red Blood Cells

Healthy red blood cells are: round, similar sizes, not sitting on top of each other, and have a nice clear background. The white blob in the top right is a white blood cell (neutrophils), which is part of your immune system

 Unhealthy Red Blood Cell

Unhealthy red blood cells are uneven in size and are also misshapen shapes. Some stick together, and the cobweb like shapes indicates that fibrinogen, an inflammatory marker is present.

FACT #2 is the item listed as number 2 & 3 in the list under the image called  Coronary Artery Plaque & Heart Disease Causes

FACT NUMBER 2. What is the Cause Heart Disease – Too Much Omega-6 Oils and Too Little Omega-3 fats

Omega 6 Vegetable Seed Oils Drive Inflammation in Your Body. The Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism says omega-6 fatty acids (omega 6 vegetable seed oils from the omega-6 families such as canola, corn, soy, safflower, sunflower, cotton and vegetable) drive inflammation.

Omegas-6 and omega-3 fats have “distinct physiological and metabolic properties (they are 2 different families). In the past 3 decades, total fat and saturated fat intake as a percentage of total calories has continually decreased in Western diets, while the intake of omega-6 fatty acids increased and the omega-3 fatty acids decreased, resulting in a large increase of omega-6/omega-3 ratio from 1:1 to 20:1 today or highersay the US National Library of Medicine.

An at home test is an easy way to evaluate if your blood cells contain: too much omega-6, too little omega-3 and too much unhealthy Trans Fat levels.

How dietary omega 6 fats and oils trigger inflammation

An imbalance of Omega 6 vegetable seeds oils trigger inflammation. This makes your blood pressure go up,  blood cells clump together and Fibrinogen, an inflammatory marker increases.

FACT #3 – 12 are listed as number 4 Others, in the list under the imaged called Coronary Artery Plaque & Heart Disease Causes

FACT NUMBER 3. What is the Cause Heart Disease – High Blood Pressure Medication Does Not Fix or Prevent Damage?

High blood pressure medication which forces your blood pressure down, does not heal or repair, the underlying damage that is constantly happening inside your arteries and blood vessels. Just because your blood pressure numbers are forced down this is not enough to provide organ protection for your heart says the US National Library of medicine in 2014. This means hypotension medication does not fix the reason why you’ve got high blood pressure.

FACT NUMBER 4. What is the Cause Heart Disease – Wrong Blood Pressure Testing Technique Does Not Find Out if Your Heart Rests at Night?

“There is increasing evidence that home readings predict cardiovascular events and are particularly useful for monitoring the effects of treatment. Twenty-four-hour ambulatory monitoring gives a better prediction of risk than office measurements and is useful for diagnosing white-coat hypertension.” 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, measures if your blood pressure dips, or falls, at night say the US National Library of Medicine.

This lets you know if your heart and blood vessels are able to rest. If your blood pressure does not dip or reduce over 24 hours this is known as non-dipping. Medical research has found if your blood pressure does not dip, or reduce, at night this increases your risk of heart disease by 50% say the Oxford University Press.

FACT NUMBER 5. What is the Cause Heart Disease – High Blood Pressure is an Early Sign Systemic Inflammation Has Started Inside Your Body?

Compelling evidence suggests that high blood pressure is a chronic inflammatory disease, which is linked to the development of heart disease say the US National library of Medicine.

This means that when your blood pressure goes up, your body is warning you that chronic inflammation is silently damaging the blood vessel walls (endothelium) everywhere.

FACT NUMBER 6. What is the Cause Heart Disease – Saturated Fat Does Not Clog Arteries Cardiologist Says?

British Cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra slams ‘Government Dietary Guideline Advice’ during a Parliamentary speech in the House of Commons saying:

“Coronary artery disease pathogenesis (the origin and development) and treatment urgently requires a paradigm shift (basic thinking and assumptions). Despite popular belief among doctors and the public the conceptual model of dietary saturated fat clogging a pipe (an artery) is plain wrong

Saturated Fat Does NOT Block Your Arteries

“Saturated fat does not clog the arteries: coronary heart disease is a chronic inflammatory condition, the risk of which can be effectively reduced from healthy lifestyle interventions” say the British Journal of Sports Medicine in 2017

FACT NUMBER 7. What is the Cause Heart Disease – LDL Cholesterol Risk Has Been Exaggerated?

Link to 8 Ways Low Cholesterol Levels Harm Your Health, then read this: Decades of emphasis by the Primary Care Health system to lower cholesterol, as if this was an end in itself, had led to a market of ‘low fat’ foods and medications, has been misguided. Selective reporting may be partly to blame for this misconception. Reanalysis of unpublished data from the Sydney Diet Heart Study and the Minnesota coronary experiment reveal replacing saturated fat with linoleic acid (omega 6) containing vegetable oils increase morality (death) risk, despite significant reductions in LDL and total cholesterol (TC). These experiments took place between 1968-1973 and were republished in the British Medical Journal in 2016

FACT NUMBER 8. What is the Cause Heart Disease – An Increase in Waist size and Weight Hides Systemic Unresolved Inflammation?

“It is not body weight, but body fat, which matters” says Harvard University.

If you have lost your waist and it is increasing in size, then your body has started a process where your immune system is out of control, and hidden chronic inflammation is actively at work. This means the body fat percentage of your weight is increasing says the Atherosclerosis Journal.

Weight to Height Ratio by Cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra

FACT NUMBER 9. What is the Cause Heart Disease – Bacterial DNA Lives Inside Damaged Arteries?

Bacteria and bacterial DNA have been found living within the damaged and balloon-like bulges of blood vessel walls (atherosclerotic plaque and aneurismal), in biopsies from patients with, and without, periodontitis (mouth, gum and tooth infections) say the US National Library of Medicine.

This means: if you’ve teeth and mouth infections that you’ve not fix, the bacteria’s DNA finds its way via systemic inflammation pathways, into your hearts arteries walls.

FACT NUMBER 10. What is the Cause Heart Disease – Low Thyroid Function Linked to Development of Heart Disease?

Low to normal thyroid function affects several processes which are linked to heart disease developing in your body say the US National Library of Medicine.

FACT NUMBER 11. What is the Cause Heart Disease – Low Testosterone Linked to Heart Disease Presence?

Low testosterone levels are linked to the presence of heart disease in your body.

Low testosterone levels are linked to coronary artery disease already present in your body say the US National Library of Medicine.

FACT NUMBER 12. What is the Cause Heart Disease – Low Magnesium Levels Linked to Several Heart Health Symptoms?

Low magnesium levels are linked to a condition where the muscle walls of your heart’s left pumping chamber (ventricle) becomes thickened (hypertrophy) say the US National Library of Medicine.

Here are five symptoms for ventricle hypertrophy (this pumping chamber getting larger listed by the Mayo Clinic:

  1. Shortness of breath
  2. Fatigue
  3. Chest pain, often after exercise
  4. Sensation of rapid, fluttering or pounding heartbeats (palpitations)
  5. Dizziness or fainting

A powerful and uncomfortable read for me as a diabetic and even after 8 years of it I still make poor choices especially where food is concerned. This article was a eye opener for me and full of excellent information. Well written and explained in laymans language. You put forward a strong argument and I am not in anyway qualified to give an opinion on it but it has left me wanting to know more so I will be interested in the next installment as Im sure this discussion will continue.

Hey Gerard, ‘You have made my day’
This is the sort of response I was hoping for – Great that it was a ‘powerful & uncomfortable’ read. WELL DONE GERARD for wanting to discover new hidden facts about the real causes of heart disease.
YES there is eventually more but the 1st most important thing you can do for yourself, as a managed diabetic of 8 years, is to get your A1C to 0%.

This information is awesome! My dad was just diagnosed with heart disease but the doctors don’t explain in full all of this detailed information. I’ve been doing so much research trying to find info that he could understand and that we could try to help change his habits. You have highlighted some great stuff here and I think this would be good for him to see. Maybe he will understand a little more the way you explained it. Thank you so much.

Thanks Jay, I hope you get your Dad to read this.
Your Dad’s doctors are trained in Pharmaceutical drugs such as blood pressure lowering, cholesterol lowering, blood thinners & operations, none of which understand or treat the root cause of heart disease.
The whole reason for cholesteroldetectives.com is because, over may years the Western Medical System has failed to improve or help me, with my health issues. This made me look for answers elsewhere. I found a lot of hidden research that doctors and health professions do not talk about.
Good hunting for the sake of your Dad Jay

This is a very comprehensive article on the causes of heart disease. You have obviously put a lot of time and effort into your research and each section is set out with great detail. I recently had a heart check up and everything was good except that they said my cholesterol level was too low. I didn’t think that low levels were dangerous but they told me that they can be. What does your research show on this subject?

This is a topic I have researched extensively and came to the conclusion that currently no one knows all the answers and there is a significant genetic component to the risk of heart disease. I think you are on the right track here. The cholesterol is not actually the cause, there are other mechanisms that causes LDL to form plaques, leading to atherosclerosis. We can reduce the amount of dietary cholesterol which leads to less building blocks fort the plaques, but won’t actually cure the disease, because the real cause is something else. Metabolic disorders (insulin sensitivity and fat metabolism) and systemic inflammation definitely seem to be key elements in this. Unfortunately cholesterol has several important functions in the body and it’s actually produced sufficiently by our bodies when our diet is in check, so reducing fat intake (or taking statins) is going to cause all sorts of issues. This includes unfavorable hormonal changes, like reduced testosterone, which can make the atherosclerosis worse. Saying this is a complicated issue is an understatement.

Jukka this is a great reply thanks,
I can’t agree with you that there is a significant genetic component to the risk of heart disease –
#1. WHY? Carbohydrates (sugars & starches) as a food group have remained unidentified since the 1949 Daily 7 was produce by the US Dept of Agriculture. Have you worked our how much of our Western government daily diet recommendations belong to the plant families of carbohydrates? It is way over 50% – more like 70% – This is the recipe for: ‘beta cell BURNOUT’ of our pancreas by continual eating large amounts of sugars & starches and continually forcing the production of insulin – this is not complicated – this is basic nutrition.
#2. PLUS – Hydrogenated omega 6 vegetable seed oils & the production of plastic margarine’s arrived as healthy fats & oils in the 1950’s, and replaced traditional fats. We were told by the food & medical industries they were better for us, but they have proved to drive inflammation because of an incorrect balance of omega 3- to omega 6 ration in our diets.
Yes I agree with you when you say that this is a complicated issue, particularly to explain, I’ve found…

Being heavily involved in the fitness industry and having dealt with clients who suffer from diabetes and heart problems, this article really hit home.

Many clients have been given high blood pressure medication, and although I hope they have been told by their doctors that this won’t prevent further damage, I always try to educate them further and help them take the right steps like improving their diets.

I found the part about omega 6 fatty acids being a large cause really interesting. It’s something new I have definitely learnt from your article and am going to research a bit more into this now.

So you can get mixed omega 3 and 6 oil supplements. Would you recommend only taking omege 3s on there own instead?

      Hey David,
I’ve found it so sad that people taking blood pressure medication believe that it is going to fix their problem.
I’m please that you’ll be able to use the information here to help others.
Yes I would recommend taking omega 3 with the highest amounts of EPA & DHA only. Because their is excessive amounts of omega 6 seed oils as the main fat ingredient in processed and baked food we have too much of it as a content in our blood cells. This trips and triggers inflammation.
But FIRST I’d get a little known blood test called the omega 3 deficiency blood test – then you’ve got a baseline and clear information to work with.

Yes omega 3’s with very high qualities of EPA & DHA are needed. Hydrogenated Omega 6 fat is abundant in all processed and baked food.
FIRST get a little known baseline blood test. This provide numbers & is a great motivational tool

Well done, RJ. This is really great information that you have shared in a way for all to understand.

There are natural ways to reduce inflammation through combinations of fruits and roots, but most reach for the OTC anti-inflammatory that, just like any other drug, has side effects that domino into, yet, another disease.

I know what you’ve shared about omega’s first hand. I experienced significant improvements in my health years ago when my bio-resonance therapist recommended my taking fish oil in the am, and alternating krill oil and evening primrose in the evening.

Too many processed “foods” on the market today. Too many fraudulent labels allowed to misuse words, like “lite” and “diet” steer people into the opposite direction of the health they seek.

It’s crazy that statins they prescribe for cholesterol prevent the body from producing Co-Q10, which benefits the heart, yet very few tell their patients that they need to take in addition to their Rx’s.

So many thoughts come to mind here. Well done!
